15th Annual John O’Neill Cup Charity Soccer Games, June 28. Charity Cup, will host two soccer games on Saturday, June 28th at the Atlanta Silverbacks Park in the memory of John O’Neill benefitting the Garger family. The England v Ireland Under 35’s will kick off at 11am and the England v Ireland Over 35’s will kick off at 1pm. Reception to follow at Fado Irish Pub in Buckhead at 7pm. Today’s event was organized in memory of John O’Neill a gentleman from Liverpool England. His life was a catalyst for good, and an inspiration to others who face the grim realities of cancer. His wife, Barbara, survives him and has attended games over the years. Fifteen years ago, two young men decided to use a tool—soccer—to raise awareness to Leukemia. In previous years the money raised benefitted the local chapter of the Leukemia Society. This year the organizing committee decided to change the scope of services to benefit a local family in our community. The proceeds from this event are used to assist the Garger Family, whose daughter was recently diagnosed with cancer and unfortunately lost their father in a tragic car accident last year. This event is not only for soccer lovers; spectators are officially invited as well. If one person can make a difference, imagine what two, three, four, people, or even four hundred people can do! All cheerers, water carriers, hand clappers, encouragement yellers, and curious spectators are welcome. Donations will be accepted at the gate. For more information about this event, sponsoring, donating raffle prizes or playing please contact Christine Carolan at 404-245-1986 or ccarolan@excite.com
