The Irish Girl (An Cailin Gaelach)
I would love to be on the side of a hillside
with an Irish girl beside me
I would tease her and pull her closer
and I say to myself, how nice it would be
As I roved out of a morning early
when I was herding the cows
I saw a vision of a woman sitting on the pasture
and her shawl was filled with hazel nuts
It is care that the herds deserve
and I would heard them outside all day
milk and bread from them all through the summer
and for such things - young women wed.
